Mickey Smith is exploring spoken word poetry with themes of family and its complexities, often leaning into obscurity and nonsense. Mickey creates cartoon-like drawings and sketches that follow an absurdist theme and uses comedy as a constant throughout his work, encouraging honesty and authenticity.
ABOUT WORK:
Loch (c aitch not c kay) is a rhythmic poem that explores personal family dynamics and the complexities that come with the relationships we have with our relatives. I wrote this poem two years ago, after a fishing trip with my uncle, where we were both staying at my grandpas flat in Scotland. Alongside the written poem I’ve recorded a spoken-word version, which has a backing track of me playing the synth.
