What We Do
Lighthouse is an arts and culture agency producing, supporting and presenting new art, film, music, design and games.
Our core programmes include Guiding Lights, the UK’s leading mentoring scheme for filmmakers, Lighthouse Studio, regular residencies providing creative and professional development, and Last Dance, a series of events, podcasts, films and blogs investigating the rapid changes affecting UK music and youth culture.
We present exhibitions, residencies, screenings, workshops and talks in our Brighton venue as well as internationally, in partnership with leading institutions and festivals, including Sonic Acts, in Amsterdam, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, in San Francisco, LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación, in Gijon, Spain, Rewire, in The Hague, Encounters Film Festival, in Bristol, Brighton Festival, and others.
In recent years, Lighthouse has produced, presented, and supported work by many internationally renowned and emerging artists and filmmakers, including Turner Prize nominees The Otolith Group and Kutlug Ataman; Emmy Award-winning VR filmmaker, Lynette Wallworth; groundbreaking electronic musician, Holly Herndon; award-winning design studio, Metahaven; artistic collaborators David Blandy and Larry Achiampong; social scientist, artist, writer and provocateur, Trevor Paglen; innovative artists’ group, Blast Theory; interactive arts studio, Invisible Flock; and electronic artist, Rafael Lozano Hemmer, as well as many others.
Lighthouse also managed the high-level production scheme, BFI Shorts, in collaboration with the British Film Institute, which produced 17 major short films over two years.
