Ruth Paxton – Writer
Ruth Paxton is a filmmaker who, in 2013, was named in Canongate’s FUTURE 40, a list of Scottish storytellers predicted to dominate the next 40 years of creative life in the country. Her award-winning short films have been exhibited and nominated in competition at numerous international events and prominent film festivals; her short drama Paris/Sexy won the UK Film Council’s award for Best British Short at the 2011 London Short Film Festival, and she won Best Woman Director at the same festival in 2015 for her film, Pulse.
Ruth was an artist in residence at the Cucalorus Film Foundation in North Carolina, USA in 2014, and has been a selected member of multiple international labs, juries and panels – most recently the Wellcome Trust’s Ideas Lab, in association with the 2015 Edinburgh International Film Festival, and the British Council’s Film & Music Lab taking place in 2016. Other commissions include Baroque for Milan’s Festival Delle Lettere, Rockhaven for the Royal Philharmonic Society and Nevada, commissioned and featuring music by folk trio, LAU.
