Rubika Shah – Writer/Director
Rubika is a Screen International ‘Star of Tomorrow’ whose films have screened at festivals including Sundance, Berlin, Tribeca, Hot Docs, BFI London and Sheffield Doc/Fest, amongst others. Her films explore themes of identity and belonging through the lens of music, arts and popular culture.
After working at Universal Music, Rubika went on to become a freelance video journalist for ABC and BBC. Her first theatrical mini-documentary – about David Bowie and MTV – was shortlisted for a Grierson Award and screened across the UK through Picturehouse. It also featured in The Guardian, Rolling Stone and Vice.
She has directed a number of documentary shorts for the BBC, which explore the works of Spike Lee, Gore Vidal and others. She is currently working on feature documentary, White Riot, about punk, politics and fanzine culture with her producer/co-writer Ed Gibbs, supported by Creative England, as well as a number of narrative projects.
