Paven Virk – Writer
Paven founded the Second Generation Theatre Company at 16, exploring issues that affected her generation, and co-producing two plays with The Belgrade Theatre. She has been part of the Royal Court Young Writers Programme, the NFTS Screenwriting for Film & TV Course, Theatre Royal Stratford East Musical Theatre Writing Residency and National Theatre Writers attachment.
Named one of Screen International’s ‘Stars of Tomorrow’, she has taken part in Working Title’s residency at the Hay Festival, and is currently developing Muslim Girls with Ecosse Films, a music film, Bhangra, with producer Jeffrey Taylor, and the life story of iconic singer, actress and author Pauline Black, best known for her role as the lead singer of ska group The Selector.
For television, Paven has been part of the writersroom for Skins (last series), Emma Frost’s Birthday Girl (Tiger Aspect/C4), and part of the writing team on Ayub Khan Din’s The ABC (The Forge/C4). She’s currently developing various original TV series with a fresh perspective on what challenges her within and out of her culture.
Paven is currently writing two theatre plays, The Funeral Singer and Save Our School Dinners (The Old Rep/Belgrade Theatre), and has been asked to adapt Manto short stories for 70 years of partition next year as part of an international tour to India.
