Kara Smith – Writer
Kara is a Bermudian/British screenwriter and filmmaker living in London, who graduated from Westminster University’s MA Screenwriting Programme in 2011. Since then her work has garnered several international awards, including a nomination for the International Emmy Peter Ustinov Award, Best International Screenplay at Rhode Island International Film Festival, Best Screenplay at Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival, grand prize winner of Hollywood Screenplay Contest and Park Avenue winner of New York Screenplay Contest. Kara is also a credited writer across five BBC children’s television series, and her directorial debut short film Blotter was selected for the 2015 Reykjavik International Film Festival Talent Lab.
More recently, Kara was selected by Xavier Dolan to write and direct a short film for an online campaign, as a winner of the Magnum Vie Magnifique short film competition, in partnership with VICE. In March 2016, Kara’s debut feature documentary which she co-directed, The Berkeley Project, premiered at the Bermuda International Film Festival.
