Oska Bright and Lighthouse team up on mentoring initiative

This year we’re excited to be joining forces again with our friends at Carousel, providing consultancy support to deliver structured mentoring to two new members of the Oska Bright Film Festival programming team.

Oska Bright is the world’s leading festival for films made by or featuring people with learning disabilities or autism. Currently accepting submissions for the next edition of the festival, in 2023 they are touring their 2022 programme to venues across the UK.

This builds on our work with Oska Bright in 2016, when Festival Director Becky Bruzas and Lead Programmer Matthew Hellett took part in Guiding Lights, the UK film industry’s leading mentoring programme led by Lighthouse, which matches upcoming film talent with high-level industry mentors. As part of this work, we commissioned an Access & Inclusion Toolkit, drawing together practical learning and advice on making creative programmes, training and workshops more accessible and inclusive for learning disabled people.

Lizzie Banks, Carousel's Deputy Artistic Director, says "We're absolutely delighted to be working with Lighthouse again. Our work together supporting Becky and Matthew to participate in Guiding Lights was groundbreaking for them, and for us as an organisation. We're really excited to be able to share this opportunity with other members of the learning disabled festival team and connect them with industry support, which will allow them to take their work to the next level."
