SpeakySpokey a spoken word cabaret and music night was launched in Brighton almost a decade ago. It’s back now with A picture that never fades with the Grant family once again at its helm.
Colin is the host for an evening inspired by the phrase ‘Speaky Spokey’ (posh-sounding Jamaican), though this son of Luton town is anything but posh.
He is joined by Raymond Antrobus debuting his latest collection, Signs, Music and the poet Sea Sharp reading from work including Black Cotton. There’s a music performance from Clayfoot (including Cato on bass & vocals) and Fiorella.
The cabaret performances begin at 7 pm but the doors open at 6 pm for people to get a chance to see the culmination of the work-in-progress from the Grant family residency, as well as an interactive drawing piece for you to add to, and a short film screening from Jazz’s Smoke Forgets the Earth.
From 6 pm onwards, everyone will be greeted with a free Green Ray-themed cocktail and food at £5 is available from the pop-up restaurant of SpiceMonkey.
