Barry Purves – Artist in Motion

Acclaimed British animation director and writer Barry Purves is widely known for his stop-motion shorts and direction of numerous commercials, title sequences and animation inserts for feature films.
His films have received over 60 major international awards, including Grand Prix, Best Director, Best Film, OSCAR and BAFTA nominations.
A leading authority on stop-motion, Barry has produced documentaries and many articles on the subject. His book Stop Motion: Passion, Process and Performance is described as "…a must-have book for anyone interested in the art of animation” by World Animation Journal. He has led workshops in major American studios such as Dreamworks, PDI, Pixar and Will Vinton Studios, and is a regular jury member and advisor for many festivals.
This event was an exciting opportunity to see some of Barry’s work and gain insight into the complexities of the craft and it’s relationship with other forms of animation. Participants had the chance to meet the characters Barry creates, watch him demonstrate his craft and see how he produces some of the most compelling stories captured frame-by-frame.
