Animation workshops led by artist Anna Dumitriu for the Informathlon project

Informathlon is a visual art project which uses interactive media to explore and visualise stories and data emerging from the Olympics.  Artists, Mary Agnes Krell, Anna Dumitriu and Sue Gollifer are working with Lighthouse, the University of Sussex, the University of Brighton and two secondary schools from Brighton and Hove to create an exhibition which will be shown online, and at the Jubilee Library in Brighton.

Informathlon features four linked projects being undertaken by artists and students, including those studying on the MA in Digital Media Arts, which Lighthouse runs with the University of Brighton. The projects are: Still Momentum, an interactive audiovisual work, based on a collection of interviews capturing the thoughts, memories and experiences of athletes; Hype Relay, a real-time visual timeline generated from data from social networking sites reporting the buzz about the games; Dock Drop Go, an interactive augmented reality game celebrating participation and collaboration; and Data Steps, an installation which uses data collected through electronics embedded in young people's shoes to affect and enhance film footage based on sporting activity. This month, pupils from Varndean School will be making work for the Data Steps project, through a series of workshops led by Anna Dumitriu. Their work will culminate in an exhibition which opens to the public on 21 June.

Informathlon is part of the Universities of Brighton and Sussex Creative Campus Initiative, recognised as part of the London 2012 Inspire programme.
