November 2014 – March 2015
Sophie Giblin is an artist, curator, educator and founder of award-winning Kollektiv Gallery and Fast Art. Her projects are dedicated to supporting early career practitioners to be more collaborative, entrepreneurial, better problem solvers and risks takers. For these projects Sophie was awarded South East by Caroline Lucas and Vinspired.
Lokal (formerly ‘Nice to Meet You’) is Sophie’s newest project, which she developed within the Platforms studio programme.
Lokal is a global online and offline community project that introduces UK early career artists to other creatives in cities across the world, in the form of visual dialogues – made by two artists in two different locations asking each other one question and then replying visually. Lokal’s first set of visual dialogues is set to take place Summer 2015, introducing 4 Brighton to 4 European artists.
Lokal has been designed as a 1 month professional development programme. Invested in inspiring ambition and confidence, exploring global collaboration and intercultural understanding. This programme takes advantage of the locality that the internet offers us today and aims to reduce underemployment and increase self-employment.
