Neil Cargill & Simon James

November 2014 – March 2015

Writer and director Neil Cargill and producer Simon James, are working together to realise their podcast series Akiha Den Den, and have joined the Platforms programme in order to create their pilot episode through an interactive online experience.

Neil Cargill is a writer, producer and director, and has created many innovative music, drama, comedy and feature programmes for BBC Radio, working with a wide range of talent from Denis Norden to Dennis Hopper, by way of Ivor Cutler, Maxine Peake and Ralph Steadman.

Simon James has over 20 years experience producing music and sound in a unique way that has resulted in invitations to perform at the BFI and Royal Festival Hall. His sound design, sound engineering and music have featured on radio programmes including Radio 4’s The Diabolical Gourmet; the location-recorded feature Skip; a Between The Ears documentary Connecting; and The Hitchhikers Guide to Europe.

His records, including the most recent single ‘The Beam’ – a radiophonic ride aboard a fantastical mid-century Monorail, have been championed by Nick Luscombe, presenter of BBC Radio 3’s The Late Junction. His new band Black Channels will release a 10” vinyl on cult horror soundtrack label Death Waltz Records in January 2015.
