Swedish-born 2014 EFA European Sound Designer Joakim Sundström‘s credits include a number of Oscar, BIFA and BAFTA-winning films including Seven Psychopaths (2012), Fish Tank (2009), The Constant Gardener (2006), Touching The Void (2003) and The Berberian Sound Studio (2012).
Joakim is long-time collaborator of Michael Winterbottom’s with credits on In This World (2002), A Mighty Heart (2007), The Road To Guantanamo (2006), 24 Hour Party People (2002), The Killer Inside Me (2010) amongst many others. Most recently, he has worked on Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard’s documentary feature 20,000 Days On Earth (2014), an adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s Filth (2013) for director Jon Baird, David Mackenzie’s prison drama Starred Up (2013) and Bypass (2014) for director Duane Hopkins. He is currently in production on Andrew Haigh’s upcoming feature 45 Years (2015).
In 2012 Joakim won a BIFA for his work on Peter Strickland’s critically acclaimed Berberian Sound Studio (2012). He was also nominated for a BAFTA for The Constant Gardener (2006), two MPSA Golden Reels for Touching The Void (2003) and The Constant Gardener (2006), a British Independent Film Award for In This World (2002), an International Press Academy Golden Satellite Award for Code 46 (2003) and a London Film Critics’ Circle Award for Berberian Sound Studio (2012).
Born in the Baltic city of Gefle in the north east of Sweden, he currently resides between London and Brighton, England.
