“With her oblique and politically charged productions, this Virginia-based artist is a striking new presence in electronic music.” – Resident Advisor. Known previously as E+E, Elysia Crampton is a Bolivian-born producer and self-proclaimed “transevangelist”. Her very personal debut album, American Drift, was released in 2015 on Blueberry Recordings, a label where American narratives are re-examined and trans-ontologies are given voice and resonance. Elysia has described the album as an exploration of Virginia’s history as well as a meditation on brownness, on being Latina, and as a kind of geology. In a unique show, she will will present this music live at Progress Bar.
Nidia Minaj is an 19-year-old DJ based in Bordeaux, France, and one of very few female Kuduro producers. Her music is inspired by the Portuguese speaking heritage of her Cape Verdean and Guinea Bissauan parents and by the ghetto of Vale de Amoreira, Portugal, where she spent most of her childhood. Nidia remains closely connected to the Young Portugal scene of DJs making innovative and emotive forms of Kuduro and Afro House dance music. Prior to her solo career, Nidia was part of Kaninas Squad, an all-girl teenage Kuduro group.
Having left his increasingly turbulent home of Istanbul, the now London-based, half-Egyptian artist Sami Baha has quickly garnered a reputation for producing carefully honed Trap instrumentals. His characteristic stylised productions use delicately layered complex Eastern melodies, abstracted vocal samples and trap elements, placing onus on the spaces between.
False Witness is the alias of Marco Gomez, a Brooklyn-based DJ and multidisciplinary artist who straddles the intersection between nightlife and socio-political activism. Gomez has never been shy of bringing real-world themes into the club, blowing up the false dichotomy between thinking and dancing.
Yves Tumor, signed to labels NON and PAN, is the solo project of Sean Bowie, the enigmatic multi-instrumentalist and producer based in Northern Italy. Sonically, the body of work produced by the artist (including that also released under the aliases Shanti, Silkbless and Bekelé Berhanu) has been described variously as anxious, nightmarish and ambient hopelessness.
Kareem Lotfy is an Egyptian-born artist and musician, now based in Amsterdam. He has been making beats on digital audio workstation FL Studio (formerly known as FruityLoops) since 2000. In 2008, he released his album Dirty Zeyda – a mix of samples of mass media he had collected over a period of years – on 100COPIES, a label supporting the independent music scene in Cairo.
Lighthouse Artistic Director, Juha, is a DJ and the founder of Viral Radio, a platform to support the work of musicians shaping the sound of the future. As part of the Lighthouse programme he presents Viral Radio on ResonanceEXTRA, a monthly broadcast following new developments deep down the rabbit hole of internet music culture.
