YOUNG REWIRED STATE 2014: Festival of Code
31 July - 3 August 2014
Annual celebration of code returns for another year
Children under 18 are coming together for another week long event to meet like minded young people and create websites and apps using open data.
The Young Rewired State summer camp will be here on Thursday 31 July 2014. Young coders will be spending the day being introduced to open data by their mentors and receiving help developing their online projects. They will be making games, apps, websites, or hardware, and have free choice over their project as long as it uses open data.
The aim of the week is to bring together kids with similar interests to work together in a fun environment and solve real world issues with their projects. Last years projects included a platform for outing internet trolls, and a java game based on finding planets. So far this week has been a great success with some projects already completed.
On Friday, all the groups will come together in Plymouth, hosted by i-DAT and Plymouth University , to hear talks from industry professionals and share with everyone the projects they have been working on. There will also be live music, pizza, ice cream vans, gaming, table tennis, and coding!
Young Rewired State is the philanthropic arm of Rewired State. One of the by-products of Young Rewired State (YRS) is the strong alumni network. Once YRSers reach 19, many volunteer to return, year on year, to mentor the younger ones, helping them understand what the week is all about and welcoming them into the broader network of developers — helping them make life-changing decisions.
