THE SURROUND x The RE-IMAGINED | MAY 2018
11 May 2018
LAST DANCE: RE-IMAGINED FUTURES
The Surround was selected through an Open Call for proposals from artists and curators to be part of Re-Imagined Futures.
The Surround is a nomadic DIY platform for emerging and established artists working within music and live performance. It is a testing ground for improvisation and collaboration in song, spoken word, music, sound, film and movement.
This special edition, co-curated with artist and writer Sarah Gillett, is inspired by science fiction, space exploration and new technologies. Musicians, singers and spoken word performers will explore different visions of a culture 2000 years from now, followed by a discussion between the artists and the audiences about what they have just seen. The evening will then culminate in two new collaborative performances inspired by what has gone before.
The Surround was set up in 2015 by Rose Dagul and Penny Klein. The pair work together as Alien Wind and have presented 14 Surroundings since the platform began, as well as co‐curating special Surroundings with SeenThrough, Florence Lawrence Chorus, Haddow and the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague.
