Oscar and BAFTA-winning sound mixer Simon Hayes delivered BAFTA Crew masterclass during CINECITY.

Presented in partnership with BAFTA, we were delighted to welcome leading sound mixer Simon Hayes to Brighton during CINECITY film festival.

Simon began his career in the film industry when he was 16, working as a runner in a commercials production company. At 18 he moved into the sound department as an assistant and then boom operator before mixing his first feature at just 27 years old. Since then, he has worked on 47 productions and has enjoyed a long-standing collaboration with director Matthew Vaughn on features including Layer Cake, Stardust, Kick Ass, X-Men: First Class and Kingsman: The Secret Service which is due for release in 2015.

Simon joined Lighthouse to discuss his work processes across a variety of budgets and his collaborations with some of the world’s most esteemed directors; including Danny Boyle (Trance) Daniel Barber (Harry Brown) Paul Greengrass (Green Zone) Phyllida Lloyd (Mamma Mia) Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and Revolver) and Tom Hooper (Les Misérables) for which he received both a BAFTA and Oscar for his achievement in sound mixing.

Simon has recently finished working as the production sound mixer on David YatesTarzan, due for release in 2016.

BAFTA Crew is funded by Creative Skillset’s Skills Investment Fund and is run in partnership with Creative England.
