THE SOUND OF STORY: NAINITA DESAI
PART OF BRIGHTON'S CINECITY FILM FESTIVAL
17 & 18 NOVEMBER 2015
AN EXPLORATION OF SOUND AND MUSIC IN STORYTELLING
Composer, songwriter and producer Nainita Desai is a speaker at The Sound Of Story 2015: two days of talks, screenings and workshops that explore the creative potential of sound in the storytelling process.
A leading composer in the UK, Nainita Desai has scored numerous projects spanning film, television, commercials, trailers and drama for all the major broadcasters including the BBC, HBO, ITV and C4.
A multi-instrumentalist with a collection of unusual instruments, she works across a wide range of musical genres, moving seamlessly between orchestral music, ethnic influenced scores, electronics, sound design and songwriting.
Many of the projects she has worked on have won or been nominated for awards, including Oscar nominated and multiple award-winning short drama Little Terrorist, Music+Sound award nominee Checkpost, and EMMY nominated factual drama Maxwell. In 2014, she and fellow Soundology founder Malcolm Laws were nominated for a RTS (Royal Television Society) Best Music award for the original score they created for the BAFTA nominated ITV film The Day Kennedy Died.
As well as composing, Nainita is on the Media Executive Committee at BASCA (British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors), where she is involved in creating awareness of copyright, and is a visiting lecturer at Goldsmith’s College.
