Larry Sider is a workshop leader at The Sound of Story 2016.
Aimed at writers and filmmakers, and led by experienced sound practitioner and consultant Larry Sider, this workshop will analyse how narrative can be interpreted through sound, looking at different types of scripts giving sound information. The session will be illustrated with clips, and will also include some practical exercises.
Lunch and refreshments are included.
Larry Sider is a film editor and sound designer who has worked for thirty years on a wide spectrum of film and television productions; in genres including documentary, animation and fiction, and in formats that have ranged from shorts to features and educational programming. He has worked extensively with animators the Quay Brothers ( Street of Crocodiles, Institute Benjamenta ) and documentary filmmaker Patrick Keiller ( London, Robinson in Space and Robinson in Ruins ).
Larry is Head of Film Sound on the MA Filmmaking course at Goldsmiths and was previously Head of Editing, Sound and Music at the National Film and Television School. He regularly teaches at several UK and European schools, including the International Film School (Köln), Baltic Film and Media School (Tallinn), ENSATT (Lyon), University College of the Arts, Ghent School of Art, Open City Docs at University College London and Piet Zwart Institute (Rotterdam).
Since 1998, he has advanced the creative use of sound in media and the arts as Director of the School of Sound symposium, a four-day event exploring the use of sound in the arts and media, which draws participants from around the world. Larry is also the co-editor of The New Soundtrack journal.

ABOUT THE SOUND OF STORY
The Sound of Story takes place over three days 17, 18, 19 November 2016. It is a series of talks, masterclasses, screenings and workshops featuring a stellar line-up of world-class sound professionals.
The Sound of Story is presented by Lighthouse, and supported by Creative Skillset ’s Film Skills Fund, which is funded by the BFI with National Lottery funds and through the Skills Investment Fund. It takes place during Brighton’s annual film festival, CINECITY, and is sponsored by Goldcrest and AMPS (Association of Motion Picture Sound).
