Power Up – February half term

Creative workshops for 7-12 year olds

Wednesday 20 – Friday 22 February
Lighthouse, BN1 4AJ

Explore climate change, renewable energy and our planet

Power Up is a series of workshops for children aged 7-12 during February half term, which will explore how we consume energy and how that affects our planet. Power Up aims to show children how their imagination and creative thinking can make a real difference to the future of our planet.

Join artist Melanie Terrade for a hands-on workshop exploring how everyday technologies can be redesigned to be more environmentally friendly. Children will choose a device and explore its current sustainability, before imagining how it could be redesigned. New solutions will be created through a combination of drawing, Tinkercad software and physical prototyping. The session will encourage young people to think about the impact our behaviour has on the environment, and to get them to think creatively about solutions.

Dates: 20, 21 and 22 Feb
Times: 11am – 1pm
Tickets: Pay what you can (minimum £1) – sold out

*We want these workshops to be accessible to all. Lighthouse is a charity, all donations and ticket fees support our programme of talks, exhibitions and education initiatives.

The Block Builders workshop enables participants to collaboratively rebuild Brighton using Minecraft, adding wind turbines and solar panels to the interactive maps to enhance awareness and understanding. The children will actively engage with how renewable energy can benefit Brighton and its surrounding environment, showing the importance of energy conservation and efficiency.

Dates: 20, 21st and 22nd Feb
Times: 2:30 – 4pm
Tickets: £15 per child – sold out

All artists and workshop facilitators are insured and DBS checked. Parents/guardians can drop off participants and pick them up at the end, or wait in the building, but we do have a ‘parent free’ zone during the workshops. Please contact us with any questions.
