MONTHLY TALK – CHRIS KING: BAFTA CREW MASTERCLASS

THURSDAY 06 JUNE 2013
BRIGHTON

TALKS ON DIGITAL ART, CULTURE AND FILM ON THE FIRST THURSDAY OF THE MONTH

Step behind the scenes and get a glimpse of the thinking motivating the digital world's greatest artists, filmmakers, thinkers and doers with the Lighthouse Monthly Talks. In June, Chris King in conversation with journalist Ian Haydn Smith, will be our monthly talk speaker.

BAFTA-winning editor Chris King (Senna, Exit Through The Gift Shop, Our War) is our monthly speaker for June, presented in partnership with BAFTA as part of their BAFTA Crew Masterclass programme.

During his BAFTA Crew masterclass, Chris will offer insights into his craft and his take on storytelling – as well as sharing dispatches from some of the most exciting cutting rooms in the country, working with acclaimed directors Asif Kapadia, Kevin Macdonald, Shane Meadows and elusive artist Banksy.

In recent years, Chris has earned a reputation as one of the most creative and incisive documentary feature editors in Britain, winning two BAFTAs as well as numerous other awards for his work on hugely successful feature documentaries Senna and the Academy Award nominated Exit Through The Gift Shop. His television credits include the BAFTA-winning Our War, and Welcome To Lagos. Recently, he contributed to Kevin Macdonald’s BAFTA-nominated Marley, Shane Meadows hotly anticipated Stone Roses – Made of Stone about the seminal Manchester band’s comeback tour, and directed and edited Thoughts, Work, Life – Damien Hirst, a project commissioned to accompany the artist’s 2012 retrospective at Tate Modern.

Chris joins the BAFTA Crew programme fresh from The Pappas Brothers (working title) a tragicomic tale of fraternal love set in the world of Professional Vert Skating. Next up is Amy, a chronicle of the short, turbulent life of Amy Winehouse, Chris’s second collaboration with Asif Kapadia.

This event is funded by Creative Skillset’s Craft and Technical Skills Academy and in partnership with Creative England, as part of BAFTA Crew.
