Lighthouse presented a talk by renowned science writer, Adam Rutherford. Currently working for Nature, Rutherford is one of the UK’s outstanding science communicators. Trained in genetics at UCL, his work includes the award-winning BBC programmes, The Cell, The Gene Code, and Playing God. His first book, Creation, about synthetic biology and the origin of life, will be published by Viking in April 2013.

Rutherford’s talk launches the residency at Lighthouse by David Blandy, who will work with Rutherford on Helix, an interactive project exploring the discovery of the structure of DNA. The residency will take place during the Brighton Science Festival 2013 where Rutherford and Blandy will explore the science and ideas that led to the discovery of the structure of DNA, and how this might develop into a multi-narrative, interactive artwork.
