FILM HUB SOUTH EAST LAUNCHES

FRIDAY 22 & SATURDAY 23 NOVEMBER 2013
BRIGHTON

FILM HUB SOUTH EAST, PART OF THE BFI'S FILM AUDIENCE NETWORK, LAUNCHES DURING BRIGHTON’S CINECITY FILM FESTIVAL

Lighthouse are thrilled to be at the heart of the South East region’s new Film Hub. Marking the start of a three year programme designed to help grow new audiences for specialised and independent film, Film Hub South East is launching during Cinecity, with two days of events aimed at those working in cinemas, mixed arts venues, film societies, film festivals, galleries and community venues exhibiting film.

Led by the University of Brighton, Film Hub South East is managed by a consortium that includes Lighthouse, Picturehouse Cinemas, Cinecity, Screen Archive South East, with support from Brighton & Hove City. Covering Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, West Sussex, Surrey, East Sussex and Kent, the Film Hub South East is one of nine regional and national Film Hubs that make up the BFI’s newly formed Film Audience Network (FAN).

Funded by the BFI to deliver extensive programming, audience development activity and support sector training in the region, the Film Hub South East will be engaging with potential members and partners across the South East over the coming months to discuss plans for developing opportunities for film exhibition in the region.

Coinciding with Cinecity, the launch will offer screening, networking and information opportunities for individuals and professionals involved in film exhibition, education, curation and archiving. Run in partnership with the Independent Cinema Office (ICO), the launch will also include a special Screening Days event for exhibitors based in the region, offering the opportunity to watch previews of new films, months before their cinema release.

Screening Days South East is only open to people that work or volunteer in the film exhibition sector. The event has been subsidised by Film Hub South East so passes are free and bursaries of up to £100 are available towards travel and accommodation costs for participants travelling more than 25 miles.
