FATED DUAL – GAMING TOURNAMENT
BRIGHTON DIGITAL FESTIVAL 2012
SATURDAY 22 SEPTEMBER 2012
Come join the fray or watch the battles unfold at The Fight Lab's showcase of competitive games culture.
To complement David Blandy’s exhibition, Odysseys, Lighthouse have invited The Fight Lab to bring one of their now cult gaming tournaments to Phoenix. At this epic full day game tournament, game-play takes place in the gallery on the very arcade machines that David Blandy's artwork is installed on. And we want you to take part!
We have teamed up with The Fight Lab to bring Brighton’s vibrant gaming community into the heart of Brighton Digital Festival. The Fated Dual tournament will focus on fighting games, which feature prominently in David Blandy’s exhibition, Odysseys
The Fight Lab is a group that celebrates and explores video games culture. They promote the artistic and social nature of video games with a focus on competitive games culture. It was formed by Robert Gee and Sam Scaife and launched in October 2011. The Fight Lab event series, Arcade (not) Disco and I am Arcade, bring together game art, film, music and games tournaments.
Fated Dual is a new game tournament made especially for Blandy’s Odysseys exhibition. Many of the artworks in Odysseys take the form of operational arcade games. Deeply inspired by the subcultures around gaming, Blandy has created several artworks that act as homages, deconstructions or comments on classic computer games.
The Fight Lab’s collaboration with Blandy at Phoenix Brighton will be a unique opportunity to see David Blandy’s artwork in a completely new light, meet one of Brighton’s most dynamic gaming communities, and play!
