Lighthouse, in partnership with Picturehouse cinemas, presented a series of film screenings and talks that explored how digital technology is opening up new opportunities for telling stories, building story-worlds and enhancing the narrative of cinema beyond the screen.

A double-bill screening of a selection of Charlie Brooker‘s Emmy award-winning Black Mirror series was one of the highlights of this programme. The episodes we showed both have technology at their heart, but are also wider allegories about social media, trends and interaction, exploring the what-ifs and potential ’side effects’ of technology. In Brooker’s own words the programmes depict “the way we might be living in 10 minutes’ time if we’re clumsy”.

We were delighted that Charlie Brooker joined us for a special Q&A after the screening moderated by technology critic and digital culture commentator Bill Thompson.
