Peer-2-Peer Creative Lab: (A collaboration with Proboscis)
Creative Interventions: Digital Technologies,Public Libraries and Archives
This event was a half-day Platform for Creative Innovation that aims to stimulate cross-sector partnerships and collaborations in order to support new routes of access to social knowledge within public contexts including libraries, archives, museums etc.
Public spaces, such as libraries and museums offer unique user-centred environments where ordinary citizens can access, and, in some cases, create knowledge. It is also now widely accepted that technologies offer innovative ways to aggregate and diffuse social and local knowledge, thereby widening access to and participation in heritage and learning. As such the kinds of questions and issues that this event sets out to address are as follows:
- How can creative uses of technologies enhance the relevance of libraries, archives and other sources of knowledge that belong in the public domain?
- What connections between analogue and digital media need to be made to widen participation and access to culture and knowledge?
- What can be learned from new forms of play and experimentation that are structured around social interaction?
This event offers an opportunity to:
- explore new ways of using technologies in public domains
- think about engaging overlooked or excluded audiences/communities
- brainstorm new forms of social interaction and spaces for learning through innovative technology applications
Peer2Peer is an informal network of people interested in developing collaborations and solutions for partnerships across industry, the arts and academia. P2P was founded and is managed by Proboscis as part of the SoMa (social matrices) research programme. This Peer2Peer Creative Lab is presented by Proboscis and Lighthouse and has received financial support from Arts Council England, South East.
