Mission
The Lighthouse mission is to provide high quality professional
development opportunities for aspiring and practising filmmakers
and artists working with digital and moving image media, whilst
also developing creative opportunities for all members of the
community.
Working with a wide range of partners from across the region and
beyond, we have established a strong reputation for identifying
promising new talent and providing high quality training and production
initiatives, enabling participants to enhance their skills with
tuition, guidance and mentor support from more experienced artists
and filmmakers.
Our vision for the future is to be recognised as a centre of excellence
where new, emerging and experienced artists and filmmakers can
access a comprehensive range of services and resources capable
of supporting them at every stage of the development of their
work and their career. At the same time, we will provide participatory
opportunities for people from all sections of the community to
explore their creativity and gain a deeper understanding and appreciation
of contemporary digital and moving image artistic practice.
Our aims and objectives are to:
- Nurture
artistic innovation and experimentation
- Contribute to the development of a vibrant and sustainable art
and media production culture – locally, regionally and nationally
- Develop opportunities for cross-fertilisation of ideas between
practitioners from different creative backgrounds
- Create new audiences by driving the development of a wider understanding
and appreciation of contemporary digital and moving image artistic
practice
- Provide a resource base and advice network in an expert and
supportive environment
- Deliver new opportunities for site-based and online exhibition
of digital and moving image work
- Encourage and facilitate a professional approach to career development
in artists and filmmakers
- Foster strategic partnerships between industry, education and
the artistic communities to provide pathways through learning
into employment in the Creative Industries
- Ensure equality of opportunities for creative practitioners
from diverse backgrounds
- Develop and host opportunities for all sections of the community
to explore their creativity and participate in innovative arts
projects
- Provide and facilitate access to high-quality media production
facilities
- Manage platforms for informed critical debate and networking
(on-site and online)
- Be recognised for the quality of our work - locally, regionally,
nationally and internationally
- Be a model of good practice and sustainability in the not-for-profit
sector
Through a core strategy of supported portfolio building and a
programme of work incorporating productions, commissions, residencies,
mentoring, training schemes, bursaries, project development initiatives
and networking events, we aim to create ladders of opportunity
for artists and filmmakers trying to establish and further their
professional practice and their careers.
