INTRODUCTION TO SCRIPT DEVELOPMENT
Length: 2 days (Saturdays)
Times: 10am to 5pm

This course is designed for people who are interested in starting or building their careers as script readers or script developers. It is also suitable for writers, producers or directors interested in learning how to best work with a script to maximise its inherent potential.

Areas covered:
- How to work constructively with a writer on their script
- How to write a cracking script report that will enable a writer to move forward in the development process
- The Script Report: processes of analysis and how to consider all aspects of the script in a constructive and orderly way
- Analysis of a film bearing in mind the key factors to consider
- Whose Story is it Anyway?: the role of the developer; interacting with both writer and producer; preparing for a first meeting; how to structure a script meeting; strategies for creative meetings; helping writers to problem solve; on-going development processes
- Review and analysis of written reports
- Where to find script development work

The course tutor is Julie Everton. Julie is a writer and a freelance script editor on feature films and has worked with screenwriters in Europe as well as in the UK. She is currently script editor on a feature funded by the UK Film Council's Development Fund.

As a writer Julie has written for stage and television as well as for film. She is an award winning playwright, produced at the Royal Court Theatre, Soho Theatre and others. For television she has written for the BBC's Down to Earth, as well as for Carlton and for BBC Schools' Hotch Potch House.
