Screening Artists' Moving Image
PHOTOSHOP
This intensive course is designed to provide you with a thorough working knowledge of Photoshop and to develop your understanding of the programme to a high level of fluency. We will encourage you to see how you can combine Photoshop’s different features to provide your own creative solutions for many of the challenges you may encounter in the future, including looking at how others have used digital manipulation to spectacular effect. The course comes with a full range of handouts which act as notes for the sessions.

The course tutor is Christopher Stevens. Christopher is a fine artist and prize-winning professional painter, who has exhibited extensively in both the UK and overseas. Digital manipulation is an important aspect of both his own working processes and many of the commissions he has undertaken including, currently, his development of a suite of digital manipulations for the National Portrait Gallery’s distance learning website. Christopher lectures regularly at the University of Brighton.

Participants will be using Adobe Photoshop CS2 on a choice of either Mac or PC but much of the ground covered will be compatible with previous versions of the programme. Because of the intensive nature of the course, designed to bring you up to a professional standard of competency, participants will need a good level of computer literacy and ideally some familiarity with image manipulation software. It would also be useful if you were able to give time in between sessions to practice the techniques discussed over the development of the course.
