JUHA VAN 'T ZELFDE JOINS SANDBERG INSTITUTE
08 February 2017
After three years as Artistic Director at Lighthouse, Juha van ’t Zelfde is to relocate to his Netherlands base, joining Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam as Course Director of Shadow Channel, a new MFA in Film, Design and Propaganda.
Juha leaves the organisation in a strong position for its next stage of development. During his tenure he led a range of bold new programmes and supported some of the most radical names working across art, digital culture, music, film and games, presenting work by groundbreaking artists such as Roger Hiorns, Hito Steyerl and Kate Cooper; commissioning new work from Metahaven, Alicia Framis and terminal beach, championing the best of internet music culture through Viral Radio; and launching Progress Bar a political party supporting radical club culture, featuring artists, academics and activists such as Ash Sarkar, Michael Oswell, Elysia Crampton, Chino Amobi, Lafawndah, Gaika, Nkisi, Holly Herndon, Nina Power and Paul Mason.
Antony Mayfield, Chair of the Board of Trustees says: “Juha has delivered exceptional programmes as part of a great phase of work by the superb team at Lighthouse. We wish him well and we are looking forward to a bold and ambitious next phase of expansion for our ever evolving organisation.”
Juha van ’t Zelfde says: “I am grateful for having had the opportunity to work with so many spirited, talented and generous people from all over the world. We need art now more than ever. As Ernst Fischer said, art is necessary to change the world, but also by virtue of the magic inherent in it. I thank everyone who has supported us during the past three years, and I look forward to seeing you at Sandberg.”
Recruitment begins today for a new Artistic Director to work in close collaboration with Miriam Randall, Executive Director to shape the next phase of development for Lighthouse.
