22 February 2017
Lighthouse is one of seven UK hosts taking part in the British Council’s Hello Shenzhen exchange programme, which will see makers from the UK and China working in each other's countries, sharing ways of working, collaborating and making.
Through the residency, which will take place between 6 – 24 March 2017, we hope to connect our local network of makers with our Chinese resident, to better understand ways of working with the unique Shenzhen ecosystem, to build cultural understanding of other ways of working, from gongban to shanzhai.
We also want to understand what processes and infrastructure Brighton’s technology sector could import from Shenzhen, and how grassroots makers in the UK can exploit international manufacturing and distribution infrastructure.
CALLING UK MAKERS
Simultaneously, six leading makerspaces and creative organisations in Shenzhen will host a UK maker who suits their specific needs and objectives. The selected makers will fly to Shenzhen the weekend of 4 March and will be invited to stay until 28 March to take part in celebration events in Shenzhen at the end of the residencies. On 2 March, selected participants will have the opportunity to travel to Edinburgh to take part in a Global Maker Event with makers and experts from Shenzhen, South Africa, Nigeria, Turkey, Mexico, Ukraine and the UK.
UK makers can apply here: The British Council/Creative Economy.
