Well, what a year it’s been! Sometimes tumultuous, often euphoric, and always busy, 2012 was a great year for us at Lighthouse.

We presented exhibitions by outstanding artists, including The Otolith Group, Trevor Paglen, Ian Forsyth and Jane Pollard, David Blandy and Invisible Flock, we commissioned 16 short films, welcomed 2 creative technologists James Bridle and Natalia Buckley to the team as part of Happenstance and we created over 25 projects for Brighton Digital Festival 2012.

For the first couple of months of 2013 we continue our Uncharted Territories theme, which examines the fundamental human urge to explore, map and understand new territories. This is articulated through an exciting programme of events for Brighton Science Festival. We’re planning interactive investigations into DNA, hack-days and talks that explore space navigation, and planet-hunting. David Blandy will be our Artist-in-Residence throughout Science Festival, working on two major new projects, including one that is a collaboration with scientist, Adam Rutherford. We’re delighted that Adam will be our February Monthly Talk speaker.

We’ll also be keeping you updated on our two flagship film projects, BFI Shorts 2012 and Guiding Lights, which have kept us busy and inspired this year. We are thrilled to be in collaboration with BFI and Creative Skillset on these two major programmes that support and develop dozens of the UK’s brightest filmmakers.

We are very grateful for the support of our community: the artists, filmmakers, technologists and designers we’ve worked with on our programme, our partners who’ve helped us do what we’ve done this last year, our funders and supporters who have enabled us to carry out our work, and our audiences and visitors, who have been with us all year. Thank you to everyone for your support.

On behalf of the team and our board – we would like to wish you a very Happy New Year.
