Chris Collins (1962 - 2014)
16 November 2014
It was with great sadness that we heard of the loss of Chris Collins, BFI Film Fund Senior Executive, who died on Saturday 1st Nov.
Lighthouse had the pleasure and privilege of working closely with Chris on the BFI Shorts scheme which launched at the start 2012. Established to give emerging talent the opportunity to demonstrate their feature film potential, Chris’ focus and priority throughout the process was on supporting and enabling the teams to make the best piece of work possible.
Testament to his vision and leadership is the ongoing success of the 17 high-level fiction films produced through the programme. Their growing list of accolades includes three BAFTA nominations, three BIFA nominations, a European Film Academy and IFTA nomination, and numerous leading industry awards including the Canal+ Award at Cannes Film Festival and a Welsh BAFTA.
Chris was a true cinephile and a tireless champion of homegrown British talent which ensured he made time for filmmakers at all levels. This commitment was incredibly inspiring and we will greatly miss his generosity of spirit and wry sense of humour.
Our thoughts are very much with his family, friends and colleagues, and we send them our deepest sympathies.
