Ed Vaizey and Caroline Lucas visit Lighthouse to discuss Brighton Digital Festival. By Iyke Onodugo and Honor Harger
We were very pleased to welcome Ed Vaizey, the Minister for Culture, Communications and the Creative Industries, and Caroline Lucas, MP for Brighton Pavilion and leader of the Green Party, to Lighthouse on Monday 3 October.
They were visiting to discuss Brighton Digital Festival, the month long celebration of digital culture that took place throughout Brighton in September. During their visit we discussed how Brighton’s thriving digital creative industries worked together with Brighton’s equally vibrant arts community to develop the festival. We also talked about Lighthouse’s role as a meeting place between the arts sector and the digital sector, and the importance of providing a platform for the public to experience high quality digital culture. Ed Vaizey toured the building meeting the five creative companies based here – Culture24, Liquid Light, South East Dance, Clearleft and Mind Orchard. Following the visit to Lighthouse, we then visited Phoenix Brighton to see Solar Systems by Semiconductor.
Both were visibly impressed with the quality of the exhibition, and the way it incorporated elements of art, science and technology.
