ANNA MIKKOLA NEW STUDIO RESIDENT
01 November 2016
Anna Mikkola will be joining us at Lighthouse Studio from September to November 2016 for a residency devised in partnership with The Finnish Institute in London and HIAP (the Helsinki International Artist Programme), which creates international opportunities for Finnish artists.
Anna Mikkola’s work engages with how humans, nature and technology coexist. Through her work, whether as text, videos, or performance, she imagines future scenarios in the present, via the past – often creating platforms for performances, such as exhibitions or publications.
She is the co-founder of both V4ULT, a curatorial project, and Human Interference Task Force, a collaborative performance project combining philosophy and aesthetic exploration. Additionally, Anna has co-curated projects at CCS Bard in NY and the Architecture Museum in Helsinki.
Her work has been shown at Jupiter Woods in London and Arcadia Missa in London, and featured in publications such as Kaleidoscope, Rhizome and DIS Magazine. She has lectured at Goldsmiths University in London, at ECAL in Lausanne and at the New Museum in NYC.
Currently, she is working on a project for Artist Space, which will be the result of her Mobius fellowship with them.
Looking towards her residency, Mikkola says: “the residency at Lighthouse is as an opportunity to further my artistic practice, which negotiates the ways that design shapes the world and relations, both human and interspecies. I will focus especially on my ongoing body of work, which looks at robotics, automation and the future of work.”
Mikkola’s work was shown as part of a collaboration with artist and music producer Yoneda Lemma at The Long Progress Bar, our annual festival of radical imagination, in 2015 (pictured above).
We’re looking forward to welcoming her back and sharing her work through the Lighthouse Studio programme.
