Call for Submissions: 30 Seconds of Fortune Have you got 30 Seconds of Fortune in you? Want to make a video to be exhibited in a gallery for White Night Brighton and Hove 2009? 30 Seconds of Fortune is an open submission video competition, which will result in 30 videos being selected for exhibition at Lighthouse as part of the White Night celebrations between 6pm and 2am on the 24 October 2009. Videos should respond to the theme of this year's White Night, which is 'Fortune'. Hide & Seek presents: The Sandpit Tour - Book to Play! Join Hide&Seek at Lighthouse for an evening of social games & playful experiences; where artists experiment with game design to create new ways of being together. Expect negotiation, sneaking, making, theatre, treachery, and fun. The Sandpit is a monthly London event for players to try out new experiences, and for artists and game designers to develop their ideas.Come along to run or hide, discuss or deceive, watch carefully or jump straight in; and see whether our games can change the way you see your city. Programming for Artists Weekend Workshop Length: 2 day weekend workshop Times: 10am - 5pm Dates: Saturday 12th September, Sunday 13th September 09 Venue: Lighthouse, 28 Kensington Street, Brighton BN1 4AJ Tutor: Ollie Glass Cost: £130 (full) £100 (concessions) This course unlocks the door to the world of programming. Often seen as a cryptic, complicated and opaque activity, this workshop offers a clear, step-by-step path into Processing (processing.org), a programming environment for creating graphics, animations and interactive works. This course is suitable for anyone interested in programming, and may be especially interesting to artists working in or curious about visual, digital and interactive media. Some basic computer literacy would be helpful, but no previous experience with programming is necessary. Roman Verostko - Artist Talk & Presentation Tuesday 13 October At: Lighthouse, 28 Kensington Street, Brighton BN1 4AJ Doors & Bar: 6:30pm Artist Talk: 7pm FREE We are pleased to host a presentation by acclaimed digital artist Roman Verostko who has recently been honored by ACM SIGGRAFF with a Distinguished Artist Award for a Lifetime Achievement in Digital Art. Best know for his computer generated pen and brush drawings, Verostko will be presenting audiences with an overview of his seminal algorist work and his pioneering contribution to the development of digital art over the past thirty years. Intensive Introduction to Screenwriting Length: 4 days (all Saturdays) Times: 10am - 5pm Dates: 14th & 21st November 09, 5th & 12th December 09 Venue: Lighthouse Cost: £260 (full) £210 (concessions) The syllabus for this course was commissioned by the UK Film Council to provide writers with foundation skills in screenwriting. It forms part of an integrated approach to the provision of skills for the audio-visual industries. Brighton's Cinecity - Call For Entries Cinecity is now accepting submissions from film makers in Brighton and the Screen South Region. This year's festival, supported by Screen South, will take place in November & December. If you are either from this area, or have a feature length film / short / video art piece made about or shot here that you would like to submit, send a dvd with details to: Cinecity – The Brighton Film Festival ‘Brighton Submissions 09’ Screen Archive South East University of Brighton Faculty of Arts & Architecture Grand Parade Brighton BN2 OJY. On Friday 7th August Fractured Films hired out an extensive package of equipment including their Red One camera (serial number #1083). Unfortunately the man who hired it has not returned it. If you come across the kit, or if anyone offers it to you, please call Sussex Police or contact Fractured Films on 01273 677139. 3. 2 Days Later - Short Film competition 2 Days Later 2009 returns for its seventh year, supported by Screen South and KCC. This year the organisers have launched a fully re-vamped website that contains all the information you will need, along with a trailer and the possibility to view past entries... Got a camera? Cineforum on Climatology: Call for Films The Cineforum on Climatology from the Edge is announcing a call for films to be featured at a two-day climate change event, to be held in London on 4th-5th December 2009. The Cineforum serves as a showcase for both the mainstream and from lesser known sections of society: mavericks and marginalised voices, including voices from developing countries that are dealing with the front line of climate change. This means that rare views and challenging positions are very welcome and diversity is key. The aim is to increase awareness about both the impacts of, and solutions to climate change, using film as the medium to share this information. All types of film, from all genres, from short to feature length, will be accepted as long as they are based on a subject concerning climate change. There is no submission fee. Associate Artists Programme - South East Dance South East Dance is currently developing an Associate Artists Programme, due to be launched in September 2009. This two year programme, partly made possible from additional funding from Arts Council England, will see a package of financial and administrative support for artists, and will include an opportunity to collaborate with a Creative Producer. Through an open application process South East Dance will be selecting artists whose work contributes to both the creative and cultural diversity of the South East. Call for Films- Get Your Film Screened at Son Of Movie Bar Son Of Movie Bar, is Brighton's friendly networking night for filmmakers or anyone with an interest in being part of filmmaking. They are looking for short films to show as part of their networking evenings. Films can be of any age & genre (narrative, documentary, music video, animation, experimental). One the main stipulations is that people are encouraged to come along on the night to talk a little about the film and their involvement. You don't have to be one of the main driving forces of the film (e.g director) to submit a film - you may have acted in the film, scored the music, done the make up etc - then you are welcome to submit. Works For Turntable - Stephen Cornford Works for Turntable is an exhibition of amplified kinetic sculptures for used record players by Stephen Cornford, a sculptor working with music, sound and noise. Creating works which borrow strategies from bricolage, process music, kinetic sculpture and free improvisation, Stephen Cornford's interests lie in the relationship between the physical attributes and acoustic properties of sounding objects, musical instruments and audio technologies. 22 August - 20 September. Write, Direct + Shoot Films Weekender Sept 12 & 13 Over one intensive weekend, you will write a short film script and direct a scene with professional actors on camera! The Times BFI London Film Festival's Think-Shoot-Distribute 2009 - Call for Submissions Deadline 5pm, 25 September, 2009 The Times BFI London Film Festival, supported by Skillset, Adobe, Film London and The Hospital Club and in association with the UK Film Council’s Development Fund, is looking for 25 talented filmmakers, seeking to develop their feature film career, to take part in Think-Shoot-Distribute. Successful applicants – producers, screenwriters and directors - will take part in a 5-day programme during the Festival in October in which they will meet with leading film professionals in a series of workshops and master-classes exploring the international film industry - from financing to the future of distribution. Shot by the Sea Festival Hastings 4 – 30 September 2009 Described as ‘The Hay-on-Wye of the Moving Image’ and challenging the traditional concept of the film festival, Shot by the Sea explores film in its widest applications with a particular focus in its 8th year, on moving image installations. Described as ‘turning the town into a magical forest of moving images’, The Electric Palace Cinema continues to explore innovative approaches to commissioning high quality installations from leading figures in moving image. Project Art Works will become the first guest curators of the Projection Space. Events include a screening of Marine Court Rendezvous by Iain Sinclair, who will also speak at this year’s engage/enquire Conference in November. The festival also comprises several other screenings, discussions and the launch of ‘Hidden Connections’ exploring the creative use of archive film footage, and Air to Earth – a cross venue exhibition of film installations curated by Project Art Works. The 10th Coastal Currents Arts Festival 29 August -30 September A month long celebration of dynamic and engaging arts events in and around Hastings, Rye and Bexhill-on-Sea. This year’s festival focuses on contemporary visual arts with the theme ‘hidden Hastings’, revealing new and exciting work by local artists, in unusual locations all over the town. There are a wide range of events and activities to appeal to all – from families, community groups, and visitors to the area; to arts enthusiasts and specialists. These include exhibitions; film screenings; open-air theatre productions; art trails; sonic art and live music; storytelling and spoken word evenings; an art car boot sale; book art bibliotherapy and even guerrilla gardening.
