Venue & Events Intern Vacancy We are currently seeking voluntary interns to work alongside our Operations Manager and Administrator. Lighthouse operates a programme of media arts exhibitions, film events, education projects, training courses, conferences and functions. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience of the day-to-day running of a multi-faceted arts venue. Placements are for 3 months, 2-3 days a week depending on your availability. Call for Submissions: 30 Seconds of Fortune Have you got 30 Seconds of Fortune in you? Want to make a video to be exhibited in a gallery for White Night Brighton and Hove 2009? 30 Seconds of Fortune is an open submission video competition, which will result in 30 videos being selected for exhibition at Lighthouse as part of the White Night celebrations on the 24 October 2009. Videos should respond to the theme of this year's White Night, which is 'Fortune'. Best known for his computer generated pen and brush drawings, Verostko will be presenting audiences with an overview of his seminal algorist work and his pioneering contribution to the development of digital art over the past thirty years. Travel and accommodation bursaries are available. Want to add variety to your film programme but feel short on inspiration? Thought about showing artists' film but don't know where to start? The Independent Cinema Office presents a one-day course for independent curators and staff of cinemas, festivals, galleries and arts organisations who want to initiate or develop a programme of artists’ films. The course offers an accessible and practical introduction to curating, marketing and the practical considerations associated with screening artists’ moving image. The course will be led by George Clark, curator, writer and artist, with guest speakers Mike Sperlinger, Assistant Director of LUX, Jamie Wyld, Acting Chief Executive of Lighthouse and co-director and founder of videoclub, plus a speaker from CINECITY. How is it that an individual's smile can lift the atmosphere of a room, or that we find ourselves 'catching' another's mood from a display of anger, fear or disgust? Chameleon is an interactive video installation that explores the subject of emotional contagion between groups and individuals and it stems from Tina Gonsalves' continuing fascination with human emotion, intimacy and vulnerability. Film Synopsis: “MEAT” centres around a surreal and dreamlike journey that is undertaken to collect a living piece of flesh from a diabolical butcher. Screen South Digital Shorts 2009/10 - Entries Now Invited! Screen South is delighted to announce that Digital Shorts 2009-10 is open for entries. Their production and skills development programme, run in partnership with the UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund, champions emerging filmmaking talent and aims to create and support strong filmmaking teams that have the ability to make films that will entertain, inspire and challenge an audience. Screen South will shortlist up to twelve projects by filmmakers based in their region to take part in their development programme; following this they will commission four to six films, of between five to fifteen minutes duration. Filmmaking teams will be awarded a production budget of between £7000 and £13000 to make their film with the support of Screen South. So, if you’re a writer, writer/director or writer, director, producer team with a story to tell and a yearning to explore digital filmmaking – they want to hear from you! Animator in Residence - Patcham High School CLOSING DATE: 23/10/2009 Brighton Patcham High School, a Specialist School in Media and the Visual Arts, Brighton, is offering a twenty-five, non-consecutive, day Residency to an experienced Animator.The Residency will take place over twenty-five days, from February to June 2010. The Animator-in-Residence will be present in School on Wednesdays and Fridays, with one day contact time with the students and one day working independently towards the project. The Animator-in-Residence should be familiar with Stop Motion, Adobe Flash and other animation software. He/she will be inspiring and creative, with experience and confidence of working with young people.
