FIELD is a unique regional digital arts showcase organised by Lighthouse and BN1. Since October 1996, Lighthouse has successfully hosted a total of 23 FIELD events. These events showcase contemporary digital arts work by artists of national and international reputation, generating debate within a cultural and critical context. Invited speakers share the platform with local artists, designers, musicians, cultural theorists, webmasters and others allowing for genuine cross-fertilisation of practises and cultures.

FIELD is an important aspect of Lighthouse’s work with digital media as it provides an accessible entry point for people into new technologies and the issues of making art using these tools. There are no other events of this kind in the south east. FIELD events compliment Lighthouse programme of artists commissions, proving opportunities for cross-promotion of other exhibitions and training opportunities.

FIELD aims to introduce people to digital arts and develop audience awareness if the issues and possibilities of working creatively with technology. This provides an opportunity to mix and discuss ideas and issues raised through the use of new technologies.
