Matthew Orton – Writer
During university, Matthew Orton wrote his pilot spec, Conquest, depicting the Spanish Conquest of the Aztecs; with this pilot as a sample, he secured representation with Emily Hickman at The Agency, and his first commission with Simon Crawford-Collins at Slim Film & TV. Subsequently, the project received funding to be turned into a graphic novel.
Since then, his spec Primed won him a place on the BBC Writers Room Young Writers course (2012), with his TV premise 9.9 being optioned shortly after. Across 2012/3 he was awarded funding from IdeasTap to write and direct a comedy web-series (Two Death), working with a 45-strong crew to complete the project over 6 days.
Over the past year, Matthew has received commissions from companies including Wildgaze films, Urban Myth, 42 Films and QWERTY. His feature spec Clean, picked up by producer Michael Kuhn, has since been featured on the 2014 Brit List. He has recently completed his first feature script commission, a political thriller, and will next be moving onto Solomon, a crime series pilot commission, developed with Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy.
