Brian Martin – Writer

Brian is a former teacher and outreach worker who now works in the education department of HMP Northumberland. He has written community films such as Heart of the Park, a 50-minute film involving 30 excluded teenagers from Hathershaw, Oldham, which screened at the Salford Film Festival, winning awards for anti-racism. He is a graduate of the Northern Film School and his feature The Enemy Within set during the great miners’ strike of 1984/5 has been developed with Stray Bear Films, with support from Creative England.

In 2014/15, Brian reached the final two of Channel 4’s inaugural 90-minute Coming Up strand, and is now working on a TV commission with Channel 4. He has a number of other feature and TV projects in development with independent producers such as Timebombs (Tyke Films), a psychological drama about three young men returning home from the war in Afghanistan. In 2015 he was selected for Edinburgh International Film Festival Network in 2015 to develop Inside, a love story set in prison. Originally from Bradford he now lives in the North East.
