Afarin Eghbal - Director
Iranian-born, Afarin moved to London as a baby with her family following the 1979 Iranian Revolution. She graduated with First-Class Honours in BA Graphic Design from the prestigious Central Saint Martin’s College in 2007. Since then, she has accumulated various awards and prizes for works she has directed, including the well-reputed Kodak Commercial Awards, where in 2007 she won three prizes including ‘Overall Winner’. In 2011 Afarin graduated from the National Film & Television School, with her graduation film, Abuelas – an animated-documentary about the plight of the Argentine “Grandmothers of May Square”. The film has had huge success, screening at over 120 film-festivals worldwide and receiving 55 awards, including a BAFTA nomination in 2012 for Best Animation-Short. Afarin is now making the move to live-action and is currently developing ideas for several shorts and her first feature-film.
